This New Year, Astral People and Handsome Tours are pleased to announce the return of Stormzy.
Following a completely sold out national tour in July, Stormzy will return to Australia & New Zealand for only one headline show in Brisbane, alongside a run of New Year’s festivals.
It’s hard to believe that Stormzy only burst onto the scene in 2013 with his ‘Wicked Skengman’ Youtube series, where he would spit over classic grime beats in his local neighbourhood. With an ever-expanding fanbase, Stormzy released his debut EP Dreamers Disease in 2014, featuring critically acclaimed R’n’B style tracks such as ‘Stormtrooper’, one of his most conscious tracks to date. Dreamers Disease highlighted the versatility that Stormzy carefully carves through his music – a skill that would later be cemented in his chart-topping album Gangs Sign & Prayer.
In 2015, without any label or radio support, he was the first ever unsigned rapper to make the BBC Sound of.. shortlist. Perhaps some of his most famous Youtube releases, ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Wicked Skengman 4’ both feature his unique DIY style and unmatchable flow, securing Stormzy’s rightful place on the UK Top 20 Charts. With Kanye then inviting Stormzy to join him on stage at the Brit Awards, he was thrust into the global spotlight.
This year saw the release of his debut album, Gangs Sign & Prayer. Met by an unparalleled response, all 16 tracks were featured in the Spotify Top 50 within just 72 hours of its release. Travelling across genres & feelings, the LP features global hits like ‘Big For Your Boots’, ‘Cigarettes & Cush (feat Kehlani)’ and, the one that started it all, ‘Shut Up’. Celebrating the record with an enormous GSAP World Tour, Stormzy brought the sound of the UK underground to sold out shows in every pocket of the globe.
Don’t miss your chance to see one of the UK’s most innovative and talented young MC’s bring his rapid fire rhymes to Brisbane, for his only headline show on this tour. January 4th at Eatons Hill Hotel – Stormzy is ready to shut it down.
