Handsome Tours and Astral People are excited to announce the hotly tipped Australian debut of Shura with an exclusive Melbourne-only performance at Northcote Social Club on 4th January. The London based singer and producer will also be appearing at Falls Festival over New Years 2016/17 and performing a coveted spot on the Field Day New Years Day line-up in her first-ever string of Australian dates.
Shura shot into the global spotlight when her first single ‘Touch’ skyrocketed across the internet, fuelled by angst-ridden disco sounds and a DIY video of her friends kissing. Clocking over 30 million plays, the single launched sell-out worldwide shows, and fans in the least probable of places (first, the likes of Dev Hynes, Jungle and Kylie Minogue: later, a guest verse from Talib Kweli, a remix from Four Tet and a Live Lounge cover from Mumford & Sons).
Renowned for crafting 80s-tinged R&B pop gems and pillow-soft beats, her debut album Nothing’s Real has particularly resonated with Australian fans. Painstakingly recorded across two years in her Shepherds Bush bedroom, Pitchfork hails the album as “that soul-searing moment when hearts are not breaking, but broken”. With six tracks going to high-rotation on triple j play, and countless spins across community radio, Nothing’s Real is “breathy, grungy and arresting” (Elle). According to international tastemaker The Fader, “Shura is the real deal”.
Having toured internationally with the likes of CHVRCHES, M83and Marina & The Diamonds and graced festival stages including Primavera Sound, Electric Picnic and Bestival, Shura’s Australian tour marks one of the season’s most anticipated debuts.
