“Techno music is my heritage — techno is not dead DAMN IT!”
A champion of analogue emotion and vinyl sensibility, for the last decade Omar S has told his story with a catalogue of tough-as-nails Detroit techno on an emotionally unstable background.
From hand labelled self-pressings to highly sought after cult classics, his acclaimed work in the techno landscape has shifted the parameters of the genre; from the highly rotated Here’s Your Trance Now Danceand Psychotic Photosynthesis to collaborations with Ob Ignitt (Wayne Country Hill Cops Pt. 2) and L’Renee – almost entirely released on his FXHE imprint (a label dedicated to bringing Detroit to the world). However Omar’s most distinctive works have come from his solo albums, including 2005’s Just Ask the Lonely and his most recent offering, 2013’s stunning Thankyou For Letting Me Be Myself. Throw in engineering work and a release for Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature imprint, a 100% original production-packed Fabric LIVE mix entry and DJ sets from Watergate in Berlin to Sankeys in the UK – Omar S has solidified his place as a key player in left-field dance culture.
Having headlined our first ever Vivid LIVE showcase at the Opera House in 2013, we’re no stranger to Omar S’ devastating effect on a dancefloor, making the outdoor experience of Summer Dance a whole lot more exciting. It can be done, but only he can do it.
