“Loefah is a name that carries with it a certain level of respect.” – Clash Music
Over the years the UK’s Loefah has solidified his reputation as a visionary selector, producer and innovator. Considered a pioneer of dubstep, Loefah started the infamous DMZ brand and the influential label, Swamp 81, which has worked with Falty DL, Joy Orbison, Addison Groove, Boddika to name just a few. Swamp81 is dedicated to the promotion of subcultural bass music with releases that display a like minded dedication to weighty electronic music and is a perfect example of a label that never rests, or stops evolving – it continuously pushes the boundaries of genre and sound, always developing and never allowing itself to be static in it’s progression or thinking.
Loefah, alongside DJ Youngsta played a huge part in taking dubstep into it’s evolved and current form. Holding onto the devastating wobbly lows of it’s former self and emphasising the space between each element, the ‘half-step’ feel stepped away from the growing restraints of the dubstep scene at the time and pioneered a sound that is synonymous with the UK underground dance scene of today. Loefah is to many the figure that brought dubstep into mainstream society, whilst still maintaining the nod of approval from the underground followers.
Loefah’s right hand man Chunky is the celebrated Zimbabwe born MC. With the skills to whip any crowd into a frenzy, his flexibility as an MC allows him to handle anything from the latest heavier cuts to live jazz with absolute ease. Chunky’s unrivalled talent has earned him the coveted roles of resident MC for Swamp 81 and Hessle Audio, 2 of the major players in the UK. The establishment of both Swamp 81 and Loefah’s creative body of work has lead to a prestigious reputation within their musical sphere, being chosen by the likes of Resident Advisor as their label of the month and held extremely dear by some of the most influential DJ’s and critics from around the world.
Chunky will be joining Loefah for their 2015 tour to undoubtedly bring an unforgettable show to Australian fans. When these 2 are together the synergy elevates the performance to a level that hasn’t been close rivaled within club culture.
