My music is definitely on some gangsta shit. That’s what I was raised on and what I witnessed. How can I speak on anything else?”
Oh are we excited about this one! Astral People are pleased to welcome Freddie Gibbs to blow the roof off venues around Australia & New Zealand in 2013.
Raised on the East side of Gary, Indiana (a city often ranked in the US Most Dangerous list), Gibbs lived through a run down industrial community plagued by vice and ignored by the establishment. From being kicked off his University Football Scholarship, to surviving court-ordered Boot Camp and a brief stint in the military, a systematic justice failure led to the drug dealing and hustling he would later lyricize in a burgeoning rap career. From his experiences and inspirations from UGK, The Geto Boys and 2pac, Gibbs rhymes are centred about his life and the issues facing urban youth in Gary (and the countless other cities similar).
With eight mixtapes and several collaborations under his belt, Gibbs has since worked with guests and producers including Young Jeezy, SpaceGhostPurrp, Jadakiss, Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T, 2Chainz, Juicy Jay and many more. On July 9, 2013 Gibbs will release his debut album ESGN, making OutsideIn not only the first time Gibbs will set foot in Australia, but amongst the first occasions his new material will be heard live.
