East London DJ and vocalist Eliza Rose will grace Australia with her presence this autumn, taking her distinct soulful UK sound to our shores for the very first time. A proponent of the UK underground since she was a child, Rose carries an encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music, with a vast collection of vinyl which serve as the bedrock for her curatorial and creative approach.
If “B.O.T.A. (Baddest of them All)” wasn’t the song of 2022, it’s unclear what was. A bite sized garage banger with a delectable vocal hook took the world by storm. It’s still hard to avoid the track – appearing over shop speakers, clubs and millions of TikTok videos alike. It’s since clocked hundreds of million streams globally, been nominated for a Brit Award, and seen Eliza be the first femme DJ to top the UK Singles Charts in over twenty years. “B.O.T.A” is a clear representation of the new garage frontier, inspiring young listeners around the world and engaging them into a longstanding, but refreshed culture.
Eliza Rose was born into a creative community, growing up in Hackney where she found herself inspired by its many multi-disciplinary arts hubs. Raised on soul music from Amy Winehouse to Nina Simone, Rose’s relatively newfound vocal approach embodies this: combined with the many UK electronic subcultures she taps into, her music becomes increasingly palatable and enjoyable, crafting soulful dance music as listenable in the club as it is in the living room.
Not to be boxed in, Rose is comfortable spinning pretty much anything. Growing up amidst UK rave culture placed her at the forefront of many different sounds – which helps when she’s holding down crowds for disparate crews like fabric, Rhythm Section, Percolate and Boiler Room.
No way to know what exactly she’ll spin – but she’s trusted for taste.
