9th July – Sydney – Civic Underground
To celebrate the launch of Dro Carey’s latest EP ‘Dark Zoo’, Astral People are hyped to present a night to showcase Dro Carey a.k.a Eugene Ward’s remarkable brain at Sydney’s Civic Underground, joined by none other than Cassius Select, Cop Envy and Moriarty, artists who, to Ward, shape Sydney’s electronic landscape. ‘Dark Zoo’ sees Ward teaming up with vocalist Kučka on lead track ‘Queensberry Rules’, which had its premiere at Boiler Room Sydney alongside Astral mate Cassius Select.
Dro Carey’s DJ sets embrace the eclectic approach present in his own productions, energetically moving between house, garage, grime and the full gamut of modern ‘bass music’ concoctions. Highlight sets include Manchester’s Warehouse Project in 2013, as well as a marathon B2B with Funkineven, presented by the ‘Resident Advisor VS’ series that same year in Sydney. Dro has also played Australian support sets for Jamie XX, Ikonika, Slugabed, L-Vis 1990 & Bok Bok.
In 2014, Ward was nominated in FBi Radio’s Sydney Music Arts and Culture (SMAC) awards in the category of Best Producer. As Dro Carey, Ward has remixed the likes of Jonathan Boulet, Forest Swords, Patten and Becoming Real, and has collaborated with producers such as Napolian and Druture (for releases on Software and Grizzly, respectively), as well as vocalists Trim, Merky Ace and Lion Mountain Studio MCs Chocolate and Kid Kairo.
