Multi-instrumentalist Mimi Bergman – aka mimi bay – is crafting a delicate Gen-Z spin on age-old quandaries in her small Gothenburg apartment. Self-taught, she began writing and recording at 14 before sharing her music online. It quickly resonated with YouTube frequenters as her channel Hi I’m Mimi subsequently grew to a quarter of a million subs (and counting) and garnered over 20 million streams on Spotify.

‘pick me up ft. Stevan’ is Mimi’s third offering of 2021 and it follows on from her acclaimed performance at SXSW, as well as the playful and bittersweet ‘no doubt’ and the lo-fi daydream ‘keep it’. Culminating in a highly anticipated EP (‘far from home’), these singles build upon the success of Mimi’s vinyl-pressed triple single ‘daydreams’ that she shared with us in 2020, a project that saw her fans vote for the songs they wanted completed.

Mellow, catchy, and effortlessly vibey, ‘pick me up’ is Mimi’s first collaboration with Stevan, a multi-talented producer and songwriter from Wollongong, Australia. Stevan has recently seen features in NME, CLASH and MTV Austrailia, and garnered over 13 million streams. Stevan’s verse and backing vocals add a great depth to the song's sound, his smooth and emotive voice fits seamlessly alongside Mimi’s, creating the perfect lo-fi daydreamy pop collaboration. The feature adds a much needed and too often neglected second perspective to the love story.

For Mimi, ”pick me up is about when things keep getting in-between and creates distance between two people who want to be together. I wanted to capture the confusion and frustration that comes with the lack of communication. I’ve known Stevan since 2018 when we first made a song together and I knew he would add so much to the track and really take it where it needed to go.”

Stevan explained that he is “so happy to finally have a track out with Mimi. We’ve known each other for awhile now online and it’s been awesome watching her grow. I think this track highlights both of our strong points as artists. I’m excited for people to hear it!!” ‘pick me up ft. Stevan’ will be released on the 7 th of May.

The single is part of the ‘far from home’ EP which will be available on the 4th of June.
