Retiree returns to their signature sound via Rhythm Section international in the form of ‘Gate’ - congealing the bands broad influences into four and a half minutes of strongly rhythmic and emotional music. Featuring a driving synth line, creative percussion and lead singer Tori’s distinctive vocal delivery, ‘Gate’ is a slow burning track that builds into a driving, wonky, melancholy pop song. The Lyrics touch on Australia’s inhumane refugee policy which includes mandatory detention and offshore processing of asylum seekers.
Formerly a holdover from the ‘House or Home’ album sessions, Gate feels individual from the rest of the album. Far more than a cutting room floor edit, the song has taken on a separate direction to their previous work, while still relating to their 2018 album lyrically and thematically.
Gate is being released ahead of their upcoming debut UK tour in April/May 2019. The Australian trio will be touring off the back of their critically acclaimed 2018 album ‘House or Home’, the tour includes shows in key UK cities as well as a slot at All Points East in London and The Great Escape in Brighton.”
