“POLOSHIRT pen a perfect piece of midsummer’s night music” - EARMILK
“A chilled-out delight” - Pilerats
“Mini supergroup” - Purple Sneakers
Already causing a stir both locally and internationally, the collaboration of Winston Surfshirt and
Polographia now known as POLOSHIRT, have made an impressive debut with their unique funk infused
electro-pop single ‘Pinned Upon’. With immediate support from triple j, EARMILK, Pilerats and
Sniffers, alongside a ripper live debut at Curve Ball, plus their first TV appearance on ‘Tonightly with
Tom Ballard’, they’ve certainly whet the whistle of the music community. To the delight of many, today,
POLOSHIRT release their self-titled EP featuring a slew of local artists on Sweat It Out.
On the project, Winston explains “This EP all stemmed from a feature. I worked on a song Mok had written
called ‘Sly’ and during the writing of that song, we messed about with a few ideas and showed each other our
music. Shortly after, we had a few songs and didn’t know how to release them or what they would be. The
name came instantly and more music came imminently.”
Although a side project for the each of the artists, they have managed to deliver a substantial 7-track EP,
and even more impressive, is the sheer calibre of each track within. The trio employ a number of local
collaborators raising the bar at every turn. First up, fellow Aussie via UK producer/singer/rapper, Nasty
Mars lends his vocals on ‘Ima Give Em’ and intros the EP with a solid 90s RnB swag. On ‘Too Good To
Be True’ our favourite newcomer Price J adds her sweetly soulful vocals to the lovers duet with Winston.
Jordan Dennis contributes to ‘Basic’ with an energy that almost bounces off each word in a sweet
contrast to the smooth signature vocals of Winston. Rounding out the EP with three further tracks,
including a funky vocal ‘Beaterlude’, the trio dial back the mood with a laid back seductive pleasure ‘All I
Do Is Think About You’, and perhaps the most lyrically and rhythmically enticing track of the EP
‘Thomas’, that is a testament to the organic writing process of the trio.
Making their live debut at Curve Ball last month, POLOSHIRT have recently announced a full national
tour in August in support of their debut EP, before playing alongside A$AP Rocky, Brockhampton, and
Noname at Listen Out festival in September. Kicking off the EP tour in their hometown of Sydney at
Oxford Art Factory on 9th August, the trio will be taking the tour to Brisbane’s Flying Cock on 10th August,
Melbourne’s Howler on 11th August, Perth’s Jack Rabbit Slim’s on 18th August, before closing it out at
The Waratah in Hobart on 25th August. Make sure to follow POLOSHIRT on socials for further news and
info on shows.
The self-titled POLOSHIRT EP is out on Friday 20th July on Sweat It Out.
