GL Release Sui Zhen Remix of 'Night Habit'

Following a long-awaited return with fresh single “Night Habit”, Melbourne-based electronic duo GL are back with a new remix from fellow Melbourne experimental pop and performance artist Sui Zhen, out Friday 11 October.

Arriving earlier this year, “Night Habit” summoned another example of Graeme Pogson and Ella Thompson’s contemporary spin on classic disco, funk, boogie, soul and electronic pop. Sui Zhen now steps to the plate, manipulating GL’s crisp 70s beats, low-driven percussion and 80’s coloured synths to bring forth a host of eerie textures to the table. The steadied movements of the original track ease their course between other-worldly sonics that chime, creep and crash throughout, dabbled by Suin Zhen’s experimental hand.

GL say of the remix: "We are such big fans of Sui Zhen, she has given Night Habit a new life. Hope ya twist!"

To celebrate the release of “Night Habit”, GL have announced their first headline show in over two years at Melbourne’s Howler on Friday 18 October. The single launch will be supported by local legends Messy Mammals, Kye and DJ Colette, and will be their first headline show since a sold-out national and international tour of their first album back in 2016. With sets at the country’s most distinguished festivals Splendour In The Grass, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Meredith Music Festival, Pitch Festival, Panama, Lost Paradise and Beyond The Valley, GL have won over crowds at intimate and large-scale shows alike.

From 2013’s Love Hexagon EP to acclaimed 2016 debut album Touch and their 2017 double A-sided 12” Destiny/Reflect, GL have earned international recognition from the likes of The Guardian, i-D, The Fader, V Magazine and XLR8R, as well as extensive airtime with Touch awarded feature album/album of the week on FBi Radio, SYN FM and Radio Adelaide. This year, “Night Habit” marked a welcome return proving GL’s widespread support has never wavered, earning an immediate addition to FBi Radio and premiere on triple j.

Since graduating from the Red Bull Music Academy in London, Sui Zhen has been enchanting audiences with her fascinating melodic structures and compelling lyrical themes. Her debut album Two Seas was released in 2012, but it was 2015’s self-produced Secretly Susan that would be her breakthrough. Since then she has collaborated with artists like NO ZU, Retiree and Tornado Wallace, performed at music festivals Dark Mofo, Meredith Festival and Inner Varnika, and has most recently released her latest album Losing, Linda.

Two of Melbourne’s finest electronic artists come together for an exotic new flavour to “Night Habit”, this latest remix is one worth a listen.
