Returning from a year of milestone successes, one of Australia’s most exciting electronic exports, Cosmo’s Midnight burst out of the gate with their effervescent new single and video “Get To Know," featuring Sydney’s breakout act Winston Surfshirt.
A match made in sonic heaven, “Get To Know” is a four-minute, multi-textured triumph, premiering via triple j. Enlisting Winston's warm, buttery vocals, the track soars from soulful rap to catchy choruses, while coasting along Cosmo Midnight's pulsing bass line and trademark warped synths. Delivering the perfect fusion of electronic, R&B and steeze, “Get To Know” transports you to a dance floor amongst the clouds - where we can only imagine this dreamy collaboration was spawned.
The accompanying visuals, directed by Sydney’s Sejon Im, tell a story of two inseparable city-dwelling friends and the loneliness that follows when one moves away. Filling the void with emotional dance and reminiscing, you're reminded of the importance of friendship, especially when juxtaposed with Cosmo, Pat and Winston hanging in the Sydney streets. The tale then shifts into full celebratory mode as the friends are re-united, brimming with elation - like the track commands.
“Get To Know” follows on from a monumental twelve-months for the twin producers. From Sydney’s Inner West to the world stage, the duo released two of the most addictive singles of 2017; their invigorating body-movers “History” and “Mind Off”, both consecutively reached #1 Most Played status on triple j, then followed their success with the celebratory release of their tantalising rework of R&B legend Jill Scott’s “Cross My Mind” at the tail end of the year.
On top of releasing new aural pleasures, Cosmo’s Midnight embarked on an ambitious touring schedule which saw the brothers dazzle record crowds, both home-grown and beyond, with a standout performance at last year's Splendour In The Grass festival and their biggest international tour yet.
Gearing up for another mammoth year, the boys will be hitting their first performances of 2018 at Groovin’ The Moo's festival circuit in April/May, alongside Astral People management mates and collaborators Winston Surfshirt. With fire in their bellies, Cosmo’s Midnight continue to thrive at the forefront of Australia’s electronic scene, with “Get To Know” a glistening first offering of what they have in store for us this year.
