A featured track from the forthcoming EP, the brutally infectious ‘Pop Them Threat!’ is an agile, rapid-fire melee of dancehall vocals, subterranean bass and cacophonous sirens, seemingly purpose-built for blaring out through the most audacious, bone-rattling sound system imaginable. Vigorous and full-throttle, it grabs a hold and refuses to let go.

Club Angel shares that “‘Pop Them Threat!’ is my salute to the genre that started it all, a brutal take on Jungle with classic Dancehall vocals, huge bass bin breaking subs and dub sirens galore - a true force to be reckoned with”.

Heavily inspired by late 90s UK dance music, Club Angel explores the moodier side of 2-Step, Jungle and Garage with tight drums, sampled orchestral stabs and melancholic vocals. ‘Pop Them Threat!’ follows up his debut single ‘Control Dem,’ an infectious introduction the project that earnt rotation adds on FBi Radio, RTR FM and SYN FM, received accolades from Acclaim, Skope Mag, BBC Radio1’s Sarah Story, and saw Club Angel provide a Friday Mix on triple j alongside gracing the cover of Spotify’s Portal playlist.

Throughout the rest of his debut EP, Club Angel weaves together the irrepressibly saccharine with an uncompromising, high-octane brand of club athleticism that incites uninhibited hedonism of the highest order. Following ‘Pop Them Threat!’, ‘Need Love’ and ‘Lies’ continue the assault, hyper-melanges of samples that emerge from the Junglist haze of machine gun synths and warping sub-bass. ‘Never’, with its Burial-esque pitched-up vocal samples, atmospheric pads and flickering, syncopated beat, offers a moment of reprieve at the end of the night, closing 6AM out on a note of dewy-eyed poignancy. Potent, primal and moving at such a breathless pace, what might’ve proved unwieldy in the hands of any other producer instead looks commandingly self-assured across Club Angel’s debut EP.

Fans can catch Club Angel at the recently announced BIGSOUND 2022 taking place in Fortitude Valley on September 6-9, tickets are on sale now and available here.
