Influential DJ, recording artist and head of the legendary Stones Throw Records, LA’s very own Peanut Butter Wolf is set to tour Australia with a brand new live show, proudly presented by Sydney touring company Astral People.

If you were to pinpoint the development of the west-coast music scene over the last thirty years, Peanut Butter Wolf’s name is more than likely to be mentioned a few times. An avid record collector and DJ since the age of 17, his mid-80s mix tapes led the way to a breakthrough collaboration with MC Charizma, playing alongside the likes of The Pharcyde, House of Pain and Nas. Charizma, who died after signing their first major record deal, led the Wolf to instrumental solo work that included the influential Peanut Butter Breaks, Return of the DJ and his acclaimed debut LP ‘My Vinyl Weighs a Tonne’. The fame off these records led to a rise in DJ Crews nation-wide, allowing names such as DJ Shadow to rise to prominence.

Founding Stones Throw Records in 1997, Wolf fulfilled a lifelong dream to release music he found relevant whilst paying homage to lost friends and forgotten recordings. With a release catalogue running into the hundreds, a common theme of originality and game-changing attitude has seen the label form into one of the most respected and influential on the planet. From old-names such as Arabian Prince, Madlib and Quaismoto to new-faces like Dâm-Funk, James Pants, Jonwayne and Australia’s very own Jonti, Stones Throw Records is accountable for not just a high-quality output, but a genre-changing epicentre entirely designed and built by one Peanut Butter Wolf. Without him, names such as Aloe Blacc, J Dilla, Madvillian and Mayer Hawthorne may be mere obscurities, as Stones Throw Records continues to top best-of lists by every major music publications year in, year out. Bringing his brand new live show to Australia, the Peanut Butter Wolf’s incredible musical knowledge is the centrepiece via a party-starting Audio/Visual spectacular, packed with an array of classic soul, funk, hip-hop, punk, new wave and more surprises than you could imagine. It’s wide-ranging and far-reaching nature has made it an appealing and centrepiece event, appearing at the likes of Coachella, Lollapalooza, Eagle Rock and even Comic-Con, appearing alongside the likes of The Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, and Odd Future just to name a few. Carefully selecting a few shows to play each year, this is a rare and unseen tour experience by one of music’s most acclaimed innovators that’s absolutely not to be missed.
