Nightmares On Wax

With over 25 years in the industry, Nightmares On Wax has shaped the British underground music scene and remains one of the most influential electronic artists in the world. As the longest serving artist on British record label Warp Records, alongside Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Mount Kimbie, Nightmares on Wax’s continuous aptitude for innovation and evolution has established his place as a musical institution. While Nightmares On Wax has marked his imprint on a range of genres, the instrumental down-tempo and hip-hop infused electronica introduced on his legendary 1995 album Smokers Delight has become his signature sound and cemented his place as one of the forefathers of underground experimental music.

Nightmares on Wax released his debut techno-heavy record A World of Science: The First and Final Chapter in 1991, changing the face of the genre with his trademark experimental bleep techno. The Leeds native then moved away from those early darker techno sounds and started to experiment with other genres, beginning what was to become a constant process of reinvention and progression. The ‘90s saw Nightmares On Wax define the trip-hop movement and  produce two of the most groundbreaking albums of the decade with the highly acclaimed Smokers Delight and Carboot Soul. Over the course of 9 LPs, including the recently released anniversary compilation N.O.W Is The Time, Nightmares on Wax has continued to diversify his palette and create sonically richer and fuller productions. His 2013 album, Feelin’ Good, is an engaging and orchestral blend of funk, reggae, soul and house, earning him an impressive 4/5 from influential tastemaker Resident Advisor. In recent years, Nightmares on Wax has been focusing on his accomplished career behind the decks, reaching 2 and a half million people on Youtube with his legendary Boiler Room set and curating his renowned six-year long Ibiza party Wax Da Jam. With the help of an impressive bill of guests including Bonobo, Mark Farina and Roots Manuva, Wax Da Jam has become an institution of the white island, reflecting Nightmares on Wax’s trademark blend of groove, experimentation, percussion and improvisation of timeless sounds.

Following his sold-out 2015 Australian tour, Nightmares On Wax’s upcoming return to down under is definitely not one to be missed. He will be bringing his eclectic DJ set to a variety of festivals, clubs and open air parties around Australia & New Zealand this February 2016.
