Tickets & Info ~ summer-dance.com.au
After holding out at house parties, clubs and warehouses all winter long, we now give you the much needed answer to a long-overdue season of outdoor celebrating: Summer Dance. Combining forces with Sydney’s National Art School, we present to you a run of Sunday sessions bound to be the highlight of your summer.
The collaborative effort between the Astral team and the National Art School will see at least three DJs take the stage each day/night for extended sets throughout December to February. Kicking off the series is pioneer of modern underground house Vakula, followed by a classic boogie / funk set from infamous hip hop DJ House Shoes, a house and techno lesson courtesy of fellow Detroit legend Omar-S, iconic block party vibes of NYC daytime party institution Mister Saturday Night, sun-kissed UK Garage sounds of DJ EZ, before the sun comes down on the series with an epic set from Moodymann. Local heroes sporting day-to-night couture and compositions include Tornado Wallace, Andras Fox, Simon Caldwell, Otologic, Ben Fester & Preacha amongst others.
The sandstone buildings, lush green grass and age-old trees that typically make up the beautiful surroundings of Sydney’s heritage listed National Art School, will be turning into a fully fledged music venue for the first time ever this December. With parties planned to happen twice a month, Summer Dance is sure to draw the nightwalkers out of sweaty underground confines and rave caves, to give them a taste of life as a day dweller and provide them with the ultimate Sunday sunset vibes; premium line ups, great food and discerning drinks.
~ DJ EZ ~
Little compares to DJ EZ’s profound accuracy behind the mixing booth; a skill he has honed over twenty years of bringing UK Garage to the forefront of contemporary electronic music. A fellow graduate of London’s pirate radio boom of the early 90s, EZ’s Dimensions FM streamlined the building blocks of Garage, paving the genre to bigger things. Having since been a major part in stations like FreekFM and KISSFM (his current home since 2000), EZ’s profile took a major swing with the release of the very first ‘Pure Garage’ compilation in 2000 – a series that would spawn chart topping entries and a push for Garage to hit the mainstream. With a great deal of current artists owing a lot to his presence, EZ has been the catalyst for a very new world of superstars.
The last time DJ EZ got behind the decks in Sydney it was a near riot – easily one of the greatest DJ sets in our party-throwing lives. For those who attended that legendary night at The Civic, you already know. For those who missed it, this is a second chance to catch one of the worlds best doing it large.
