KOWTON

“It’s amazing what 2-step sounds like at this tempo – tense, sweaty, claustrophobic – and that it works so well is just reward for Kowton’s dark, daring approach.” – Resident Advisor

Through numerous critically-acclaimed releases, Kowton has established his place as an innovative driving force in the dance music scene that few can reckon with. Integrating elements of techno, house and heavy dub influenced bass into stylistically flawless material, the Bristol native’s darker take on house music has gained him a considerable following worldwide.

Facilitated by the highly influential FACT Magazine, Kowton began to gain recognition in 2012 with his groundbreaking FACT mix and quickly cemented his reputation within the UK hardcore scene. Kowton’s unique talents have led to collaborations with fellow British house producer Julio Bashmore, amongst a string of other musical powerhouses, as well as a highly sought-after guest spot on the UK’s Boiler Room. His 2012 release Des Bisous received an impressive 4 out of 5 from Resident Advisor, with the global music curator hailing Kowton as the future of British techno. Together with industry heavyweights Peverelist and Asusu, Kowton’s achievements can include the formation of Livity Sound, both a highly-acclaimed Bristol-based record label and experimental electronic group priding itself on leading experimentation within the genre.

This year is set to be a big one for Kowton. His explosive collaboration with Peverelist, Signal 3/Low Strobe, released a few months ago, demonstrates Kowton’s vast range and ability to toy with darker techno. This year also marks the first solo material that he’s released since 2012, with the upcoming release of a two-track solo 12” through Livity Sound. The recent digital release of the tracks, ‘On Repeat’ and ‘Holding Patterns’, has been met with great success and only increased the hype for his return to Australia. This tour will mark Kowton’s return to Australia following his string of eclectic performances with UK powerhouse Tessela across our shores last year.

As well as performing at this year’s Subsonic Music Festival, Kowton will be playing a special show at Goodgod Small Club this December. Supported by homegrown talents Cliques & EK Collective, Kowton’s return to the sweaty rave dungeon that is the Goodgod backroom is definitely not one to be missed.
