ASTRAL PEOPLE & NOVEL PRESENTS
DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist’s vinyl-only Renegades of Rhythm tour is headed down under in early 2015…

These two world-renowned artists and turntablists are spinning the well-loved and well-worn vinyl from the record collection of the founding father of hip-hop and “Master of Records,” Afrika Bambaataa.
Shadow and Cut kicked off the tour with two sold-out shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza where Bambaataa himself watched from the balcony as the duo pulled his vinyl collection apart and mixed a nostalgic set that chronicled and honored the genre that influenced so many others.
“Deep into their September 4th set at New York’s Irving Plaza, as DJ Shadow bent over his spread of turntables, cueing the next sequence of beats, his partner in spin, Cut Chemist, gingerly lifted a piece of 12-inch vinyl from one of his decks and held it aloft, like a round, black equivalent of the Ten Commandments. He had, in fact, just played a religious object.” -Rolling Stone

“Afrika Bamabaataa‘s record collection has long been regarded as one of the most comprehensive and expansive archives of hip-hop’s formative stages that exists in the world today. That bold and well-reasoned statement never rang more true than it did last week, when the duo of DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist took on the immense task of presenting some the most foundational and iconic cuts of that cratedigger’s master document into one fluid and masterful exposition on the ones and twos. Casual observers, funky fanatics, collectors, hoarders, b-boys and b-girls were all able to bear witness to a turntable orchestra, less an homage and more a reeducation in the art of the break.” -OkayPlayer

DJ SHADOW
Regarded as one of the most influential and consistently innovative artists to emerge in the last 20 years, Josh “Shadow” Davis is widely credited as a key figure in developing the experimental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo’ Wax label. DJ Shadow’s first full-length, Endtroducing…, was released to international acclaim and deemed by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 albums since 1954.
Hailed for his innovative visual performances in both a live and DJ setting, DJ Shadow’s 2010 and 2011 tour was cited by Beatport as one of the top 10 DJ shows of all time. DJ Shadow most recently released an ambitious and comprehensive retrospective of his finest recordings entitled Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow (released on one single CD and double vinyl) and Reconstructed: The Definitive DJ Shadow (a multi-disc box set).

Cut Chemist founded the rap group Jurassic 5 and helped form the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. Jurassic 5 would become one of the biggest hip hop bands in the late 90s and 2000s. During this time, Cut Chemist also created the groundbreaking all 7″ size record mix series with DJ Shadow. The series has included three releases, Brainfreeze, Product Placement and The Hard Sell all of which went on to become staples with both record collectors and turntablists all over the world. In 2004, Cut Chemist left J5 to release a solo album on Warner Bros entitled The Audiences Listening. This album highlighted Cut Chemist’s music sensibilities as both a rap song producer and an instrumentalist with his single “Whats The Altitude” which became one of the most viewed videos on YouTube in 2006.
