SUMMER DANCE 2017
ASTRAL PEOPLE, V MoVement, FBi Click and THUMP are proud to present the second Summer Dance for 2017 on Sunday, February 19th. Continuing their series of outdoor parties at the height of summer, this event will focus on a LIVE line-up of local legends, as analogue artists and electronic connoisseurs set to turn up the volume on the National Art School.
After the huge response for the first Summer Dance, Astral People have carefully curated a line-up of local talent for their next event. Rising from the abundant music scenes across Sydney and Melbourne, Australia’s leading talents HARVEY SUTHERLAND & BERMUDA – CC:DISCO! – BEN FESTER – THE POSSE – HAIKU THOMPSON & RYDEEN will be taking to the fabled Summer Dance stage this February.
Emerging from Melbourne’s bubbling underground, Harvey Sutherland & Bermuda (LIVE) is the live 3-piece evolution of Melbourne DJ/producer Harvey Sutherland’s renowned solo project. Featuring Harvey himself on keys, Graeme Pogson on drums and Tamil Roegon on electric strings, Bermuda propels Harvey classics & fresh cuts into an immersive disco excursion. Harvey’s lo-fi boogie and Roland house music has been cult hit amongst dancefloor aficionados worldwide, claiming the support of tastemakers Bradley Zero, Tom Noble and Motor City Drum Ensemble. The band’s latest 12” “Priestess/Bravado” comes via Sutherland’s own Clarity Recordings imprint; two modern disco burners that summon the instrumental experiments of Patrick Adams or Arthur Russell. Armed with the mighty Juno 60 synthesiser, deep-pocket live drums and a one-man electric string section, Harvey Sutherland & Bermuda sweat it out with the crowd, luring you deep into their wormhole of jazzy disco-funk
Commonly known as Australia’s First Lady of Disco, Club DJ and Radio announcer CC:DISCO has been spreading the good gospel across dance floors and over the airwaves since 2010, and has firmly secured her place as one of the most respected DJs in her hometown of Melbourne, reaching global ears through her weekly Friday night radio show ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ on PBS 106.7 FM. Her unflinching ability to command a dance floor with her eclectic signature disco, boogie and house sets has made her a sought-after international DJ, playing shows throughout North America and the infamous local stages of Golden Plains, Falls Festival and plenty more.
Touching more wax than food, hearing more music than words, Sydney enigma and host of FBi’s Thursday Sunset Ben Fester has become a staple of the underground. Running the illustrious Heavenly parties for over four years now, and humbly flooring crowds in his own right, the pedigree of selectors that Fester has supported around the country leaves no question about his prowess as a DJ, having shared the stage with Floating Points, Jay Daniel, Omar S, Kyle Hall, Madteo, Ben UFO, Moodymann, Move D and many more. Whether gracing the festival stages of OutsideIn, Subsonic and Strawberry Fields or heating up the Boiler Room, Ben Fester’s ingenuity is as a tastemaker is undeniable.
The Possé (LIVE) are a new face to many people, but unforgettable to those in the know. The five-piece run by Andrew Elston and Ross Ferraro is comprised of veterans from all over Australia’s music scene. After a year of knuckling down in the studio and a string of sold out shows, they’ve boiled down their favourite influences into an incredible, raw, funked out live show and production team. Watch out for The Posse’s debut EP, Our Thing, coming 2017!
Haiku Thompson’s been making crowds move with sets at some of Sydney’s best underground parties including In The House and Haus of the Rising Sun, as well as People’s Club supporting Sydney’s best. With a passion for music with soul and a beat to groove to his selections glide from disco to techno with ease. Host of the radio program Fear of Music on UNSW Blitz and gaining DJ chops in the backyards, basements and living rooms of Sydney, Rydeen indulges in a healthy diet of new wave, left field jazz and electronica. He has been applauded as a selector at underground parties, with an ear for beautiful production, one foot grounded in a dusty, soulful history and another in a funky, synthetic future.
