Riding the crest of a new wave of Australian electronic producers, Basenji has been turning heads both at home and internationally. After blasting on to the scene with ‘Dawn’ followed by his Future Classic–signed debut single ‘Heirloom’, Basenji has been moving from strength to strength with little to no pause for breath.
Having been crowned FBI Click Producer of the Year in 2014, featured on Boiler Room, toured nationally and of course played under the starlit sails of the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid Live, there is no doubt that the fire is well and truly burning in anticipation for his forthcoming EP, Trackpad.
While working alongside Future Classic labelmates Scenic as well as Melbourne soul prince Oscar Key Sung, Basenji has been further refining his own version of organised chaos.
Taking keys from the past to open doors of the future, Basenji channels melodic trance euphoria and contrasts it with a stuttered programing of Jersey Club and modern pop, all the while sifting and filtering through classic R&B and hip-hop influences.
Prominently featured on BBC Radio 1, Triple J, and a vast array of prestigious electronic music blogs, it’s not hard to see why peers such as Snakehips, Ryan Hemsworth and Wave Racer hold him in such high regard. Calm and collected on the outside, yet poised to explode like a dandelion in the wind… Basenji is turning it up for everyone.
